HEAVY rain is set to lash Crediton overnight with a chance of thunderstorms, the Met Office has warned.

The forecaster has issued a yellow warning for much of the South West, including parts of Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Bristol and South Wales.

The alert is in place between 8pm tonight, Wednesday, May 1, and tomorrow morning, Thursday, May 2.

The bad weather could lead to travel disruption and some flooding.

“Spells of heavy rain are expected this evening and overnight,” a Met Office spokesperson said.

“In some places, most likely over northern and eastern parts of the warning area, there is a chance that rain will be accompanied by thunderstorms and frequent lightning.

“Twenty to 40mm of rain is expected to fall quite widely with 50mm possible in a few places.

“In some places much of this rain may fall over a two- or three-hour period.”
